July 31, Headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant called to report an attempted fraud from an unknown caller. The caller, posing as a court clerk, advised them their granddaughter had been in an accident and was now in police custody. The unknown caller requested the complainant transfer $7,000 to the court registry for the granddaughter to be released. The complainant immediately contacted the granddaughter, who confirmed the information to be false. The complainant ceased all communications prior to the transfer of any information or funds.
Aug. 2, Ferry Causeway: Complainant reported the theft of their white handbag from the outdoor picnic area that was left behind in error when they went to the washroom. The complainant advised the bag contained their passport, $100 in cash, credit card and permanent residency card. No witnesses and no CCTV available.
Aug. 4, 5000 Block Canoe Pass Way: Complainant called to report the theft of approximately $300 worth of clothing by an unknown male from a local business. Suspect described as south Asian male, wearing a blue hat, light green shirt and blue pants who concealed the items and then exited the store. Police located the male, who was in the company of two other males, and recovered the stolen items. The complainant did not wish to proceed with charges once the items were recovered.
Aug. 4, 5000 Canoe Pass Way: Complainant contacted police to report a theft in progress from a local business. Unknown suspects were located and arrested for theft. Police recovered approximately $1,000 in stolen merchandise. Suspects released pending further investigation.
Aug. 5, 4900 Block Canoe Pass Way: Police conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of local business and identified the driver that was prohibited from driving. The driver was released with a pending court date, vehicle was towed.
Ladner
July 30, 5300 Block Highway 17: Police observed a vehicle traveling at 115 km/h in an 80km/h zone and increasing speed as they drove east bound. Front radar speed clocked vehicle at 135km/h. Suspect charged with excessive speeding; the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Aug. 2, Headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant called to report they had received a fraudulent call from an unknown number stating their grandson was in jail and required $8,000 to be released. Police reviewed safety planning with complainant, no money or personal information exchanged.
Aug. 3, 5500 Block River Road: While working the department’s summer counterattack program, police observed a driver displaying signs of intoxication. The suspect provided two breath samples both reading ‘fail.’ A 90-day suspension was issued, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The suspect left the scene with a ride provided by a family member.
Aug. 3, 5500 Block River Road: Police working the summer counterattack program targeting impaired drivers, approached the driver’s side door of a vehicle and the driver admitted to consuming alcohol with dinner. The driver provided two breath samples both reading ‘fail.’ As a result the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed, and the driver walked home from the scene.
