North Delta Crime Beat: Youth wearing balaclavas caught shoplifting

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Aug. 15, 11600 Block of Nordel Way: Police conducted a stop of a vehicle observed crossing the centre line multiple times. The driver admitted to consuming liquor and provided two breath samples, both reading “Fail.” A 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impound was served to the driver. The driver left the area on foot. 

*Aug. 15, 8100 Block of 120th Street: The Loss Prevention Officer of a business reported they had a female in custody who had selected items valued at $230 and left the store without payment. Police attended, and identified the female who was subsequently arrested and then released as the store did not want to pursue charges. The suspect was informed that they were no longer welcome in the store. 

*Aug. 15, 7400 Block of 115A Street: Complainant reported their black, 2022 Dodge Charger was stolen while parked on the street in front of their residence. The complainant advised the vehicle was locked, but the primary key was lost a week prior. Surveillance video shows a figure in dark clothing enter the vehicle and drive away. Still photos from the video were not suitable for dissemination. Vehicle was entered in the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen.

*Aug. 19, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they were defrauded of $2,000 while attempting to delete their Facebook account. The complainant placed a call to what they thought was Facebook, and e-transferred the $2,000 as requested. The complainant has informed the bank of the fraud and their account has been frozen. Police advised the complainant to retrieve e-transfer documents from the bank to continue the investigation.

*Aug. 19, 8100 Block of 120th Street: A business reported a male entered the store and stole approximately $400 worth of baby formula by stuffing it into a large sack, and exiting the store without payment. Police attended, but the suspect was gone. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 5’10” tall, slim build, short greying hair, and wearing a white sleeveless top, and green shorts. Patrol of the area by police proved negative.

*Aug. 20, 11190 Block of 84th Avenue: A business reported two female youths entered the store wearing black balaclavas and sunglasses, proceeded to shoplift, and left the store without payment. Police attended and located the two suspects sitting on a nearby lawn, and recovered several stolen items valued at $20. The store did not want to pursue charges. Both females were transported home to their parents.
